Masjid Abu Bakr al-Siddiq
مسجد أبو بكر الصديق
Masjid Abu Bakr as-Siddiq
Overview
Masjid Abu Bakr al-Siddiq is a historic mosque located near the southwestern corner of Masjid Nabawi, honoring the first Rightly Guided Caliph and the Prophet's closest companion. It is a modest structure in the old city area surrounded by traditional Madinah architecture. The mosque's proximity to the Haram makes it an easy addition to any visit.
Historical significance
Abu Bakr al-Siddiq was the Prophet's most trusted companion, the first adult male to accept Islam, and his companion during the Hijrah to Madinah. After the Prophet's passing, Abu Bakr led the Eid prayer at this location, continuing the prophetic tradition. His caliphate, though only two years long, preserved the unity of the Muslim community during one of its most vulnerable periods.
Did you know?
Abu Bakr earned the title 'al-Siddiq' (the Truthful) because he immediately believed the Prophet ﷺ when he described the Night Journey to Jerusalem and the Ascension to the heavens, without any hesitation.
