Overview
The Salman Farsi Dates Farm is the site of a historic garden in the Quba area of Madinah where one of the most touching acts of communal solidarity in Islamic history took place. The area still features date palm cultivation, connecting the present to its prophetic past. Visiting this site brings to life the story of freedom, brotherhood, and prophetic miracle.
Historical significance
Salman al-Farsi was a Persian seeker of truth who had been enslaved and ended up in Madinah. To earn his freedom, his owner demanded the planting of three hundred date palm trees and a payment of forty ounces of gold. The Prophet ﷺ called upon the entire Muslim community to contribute palm saplings, and he personally planted each one with his own blessed hands. Miraculously, every single sapling took root and survived, and the gold was provided through a miraculous piece of gold the Prophet ﷺ gave Salman from a mining expedition. Salman was freed and became one of the most distinguished companions.
