Uhud Martyrs Cemetery
مقبرة شهداء أحد
Maqbarat Shuhada' Uhud
Overview
The Uhud Martyrs Cemetery is a sacred burial ground at the foot of Mount Uhud, containing the graves of the seventy companions who were martyred during the Battle of Uhud. The cemetery is enclosed by a low wall and is marked by a simple, dignified entrance. Visiting this site evokes a profound sense of sacrifice, courage, and devotion to the early Muslim cause.
Historical significance
Among those buried here is Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet's beloved uncle known as the 'Lion of Allah' and the 'Master of the Martyrs.' The Prophet ﷺ wept deeply over Hamza's body after the battle, and he stated that Hamza was the best of martyrs. Mus'ab ibn Umayr, the first ambassador of Islam to Madinah, is also buried here. He was so poor at the time of his death that his shroud could not cover both his head and feet simultaneously.
Did you know?
Mus'ab ibn Umayr had been one of the wealthiest young men of Makkah before Islam, known for his fine clothes and perfume, but he sacrificed everything for his faith and was buried in a shroud so short that his feet were covered with grass.
Hadith
I am a witness over these people.
— Sahih al-Bukhari

Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ
