Mount Sala'
جبل سلع
Jabal Sala'
Overview
Mount Sala' (also spelled Sal') is a dark basaltic mountain located in the western part of Madinah, forming a natural barrier along the city's northwestern edge. The mountain stretches about one kilometer in length and features rugged volcanic rock formations. The Seven Mosques are built along its base, making it a backdrop to several important historical sites.
Historical significance
During the Battle of the Trench, Mount Sala served as a natural defensive barrier on the western side of Madinah, complementing the man-made trench dug to the north. The Prophet ﷺ pitched his command tent at the base of this mountain, using its elevation to oversee the defensive operations. Several of the Seven Mosques were built at locations around Mount Sala where the Prophet ﷺ and his companions prayed during the siege.
